Wordwall: Is it useful for language teaching?

Wordwall is a literacy tool that includes words that are displayed in big visible letters on a wall, bulletin board, or other display surfaces in a classroom. It's designed to make learning progress become more interactive and improve students' interaction while understanding the material in the classroom. Access to create and answer questions is very easy for both teachers and students when opening the Wordwall. Many advantages can be acquired when we enter this application. The vital advantage is saving teachers' preparation time. Wordwall facilitates teachers with useful templates that can be used to save their time before teaching students. Teachers only insert words or pictures in the appropriate template. Not only good for teachers, but students can also become more engaged while accessing this app. The whiteboard seems to be useless while students use Wordwall. This opinion is quite logical because Wordwall can be a substitute for face-to-face class worksheets. Students can study at their level when using this application. Wordwall allows students to do the exercise at their speed without being burdened by other students in the class. Although there are many advantages, Wordwall also has many disadvantages for teachers. The main disadvantage is the lack of an instructor-paced feature. While using this application teachers can't control the learning progress of the whole class. Wordwall doesn't have a specific column for giving a detailed explanation to every question. A limited number of free activities also becomes a common issue for a teacher while making the content for teaching presentations. One teacher can only create 5 resources with a free account, without creating printable kinds of stuff because Wordwall can't allow printable access.

How to use Wordwall:

3. After you create the activity for your students, you can select the appropriate template for your lesson.

5. Make sure to write the title relevant to the material and decide the incorrect and correct answers. After editing the answers, you can click, "Done", in the left bottom of your screen.

6. Then you can decide this quiz as the private one to yourself or publish the quiz to students.

7. If you choose to publish the quiz, then you can allow your students to join the quiz through the specific link

8. After the quiz is finished, you can check the result by seeing the leaderboard at the bottom of quiz.

In brief, students use wordwall to make learning interesting with less boring. Students that use Wordwall probably are at many levels of their IQ. This is because Wordwall gives students a lot of exercises depending on their speed understanding of the materials.

  1. Word wall- The same with the two platforms, I have the same comments as they are just on the same page. Maybe, it is good to improve language use like vocabulary. It is good that he added the steps in using it plus adding pictures. However, he can choose better pictures for next time. Billy is getting better at writing his blog. Keep up!
